Ladies and Gentlemen

II International Conference „POLISH CERAMICS 2002” held in Spala is over. It’s time for a short summary. This conference – as the previous one – has been succesful and has met our expectations. 200 persons participated in the conference, including 43 from 15 foreign countries (Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Ivory Coast, Russia, Spain, USA, Ukraine, and Yougoslavia). During the conference 4 plenary lectures were given by invited speakers. In five thematic sessions 58 papers were presented (with 23 given by foreign participants and 35 by polish participants). 13 posters were also presented (2 by foreign participants). Some social events had also been organised. An outdoor welcome party was held with the participation of regional ensemble ‘Tramblanka’, and after the hard first day of conference the evening concert of ‘Mo-cart’ string quartett was offered to participants. The conference was closed by dinner, because some presentations were cancelled and conference was over in two days. A National Sport Center, where the conference was held was attractive by its facilities, Spała and its environments, but there was almost no time left to enjoy them.

The conference was organised by Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics of University of Mining and Metallurgy, University of Mining and Metallurgy form Kraków, the unique faculty in Poland educating engineers for ceramic industry. This conference was held with the participation of numerous sponsors. OPOCZNO SA was a general sponsor and co-organizer, KSM Sobótka main sponsor. Other sponsors were: KSM SURMIN – KAOLIN, The Factory of Fine Ceramics „KAROLINA” S.A., The Factory of Fine Ceramics „KSIĄŻ”, Eriez Magnetics Poland, NUTEC BICKLEY and binder producer „ATLAS”. The success of first and second conference allows us to presume that this event becomes the greatest industrial ceramic conference in Poland and in the near future we’ll begin the preparation to the next conference in two or three years.
