Ladies and Gentlemen
The 1st International Conference "POLISH CERAMICS 2000" slowly becomes history, therefore we think it is high time for a brief summary of the Conference. We, the organisers, consider the Conference very successful and meeting the expectations. 170 guests took part in the Conference, of which 45 from abroad (Algeria, Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Ukraine and United States). 4 speeches were given in plenary session, 48 speeches (28 from abroad and 24 Polish) in thematic sessions, and 27 posters were presented. Apart from all this we had an educational session ("Education of staff for ceramic industry"), during which 7 speeches were given, which presented educational programs for students specialising in ce-ramics in Germany, Italy, France, United States, Canada and Poland. Expectations of the in-dustry towards the young engineering staff were also presented. Beside the very tight scientific program of the Conference we also had social events: welcome meeting at the bon-fire with folk music combined with visiting the bison reservation, concert of the string quartet "Cantate Deo" from Lublin, performance of a dance group from Radom and finally a solemn conference supper. Accompanying persons, mainly spouses of guests from abroad, had a pos-sibility of visiting the Museum of Fryderyk Chopin in Żelazowa Wola and listening to a piano concerto. Spała and its surroundings also offered its attractions but due to the very tight pro-gram there was not enough time for them. Thanks to very positive opinions of the guests of the Conference, the organisers, OPOCZNO S.A. and the Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics of the University of Mining and Met-allurgy, decided to organise the 2nd International Conference POLISH CERAMICS 2002, which will be held in May 2002 also in the Central Resort for Olympic Preparations in Spała. From now on we invite you to participate in this Conference and to have a glance from time to time at our current website www.ceramika.agh.edu.pl/ceramika2000 (after vacations ce-ramika2002), on which, yet in fall, there will be first information concerning the program and dates of the next Conference. For the time being we invite you to see some snapshots from the Conference POLISH CERAMICS 2000. We would like to express our thanks to all participants of the Conference for taking part in it, for kind regards and for valuable comments and suggestions concerning organisation of the next one. We do hope to see you all in May 2002 in Spała, The Organising Committee
